Agia Galini is a small harbour village on the south side of Crete. It boasts several nice restaurants, boat tours, a diving school, sailing school, a doctors surgery and many tourist shops. The harbour area is about 3km from the villa by road, and 1.5 Km walking.

Ag Galini also has several boat trips to the nearby islands and beaches along the coast. They also do dolphin sighting trips.  A diving school is nearby in another village, and there are jeep safaris up the mountains and to the Samaria Gorge.

There are two pharmacies on the road down to the harbour in Agia Galini and there is a medical centre on the same road virtually at the harbour on the right. The nearest small hospital is Spili, and the main hospital is at Rethymnon. Several of the tavernas have internnet access.

There is an information file in the villa that gives you more on the local sights, and there is a tourist office in the town. We recomend using Cretan Holidays for tours to the local sights if you dont want to drive. There are car hire and bike hire shops in the town as well.

From a historical perspective, Ag Galini town has been a fishing port since ancient times. St Paul made landfall on his visit to Crete nearby in Kali Limenes, and the story of Icarus and Daedalus was based here.

The town is built on a hillside and has a plethora of little roads and steps, with cafes and bars, and some beautiful flowers in season. All the paths lead to the beach and harbour are where there are many restaurants, all very good. Our favorites are ONUR, Pantheon and Golden Sun.
