The following photos will give you more of flavour of the Villa...
The villa is built of a re-inforced concrete frame with brick and stone walls. In summer 2012 it will also have solar PV as well.
We took the design from one the builder had already designed and then modified it for our use. This involved 'turning it upside down' and having the bedrooms on the ground floor, and the living space upstairs. This means you have commanding views of the sea and countryside from your lounge, dining area and kitchen, and the bedrooms face the pool and piatza area.
The house is set on a hillside, approximately 500ft / 170m above sea level and although it has aircon as well as heating for the winter, we tend not to use either! The house is cool in the heat of the summer and warm in the winter.
The dining area is upstairs and boasts vaulted ceilings and a commanding view of the surrounding countryside. The tables and chairs, all locally made, seat six people comfortably. The whole of the upstairs is open plan with a well appointed kitchen, with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and cooker, and a huge fridge to keep all those bottles of water cold!
There is also an upstairs shower room/toilet and a beautiful balcony, where in the evening it is great to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Villa Eleni is not a place to come for rowdy parties but is an ideal location for the family or couple to spend quality time together.
Villa Eleni has three bedrooms, two doubles and a smaller room with bunk beds, ideal for children. All rooms have AirCon and have patio doors to the garden and swimming pool area.
Downstairs also is the main bathroom with shower.
Outside there are patio chairs and the garden, and an outside shower by the pool.
The lounge area also has the vaulted ceilings and also a fireplace for the cold winter evenings. Please note this is non-operational in the summer! There is a TV with DVD and satellite TV as well, and although we have a collection of English DVDs you are welcome to bring your own as well. There is a small reading book library for your use.
Both the dining area and the lounge areas have wooden roofs with uplighters to bring home the wonderful atmosphere!
Only three Km from the local town of Agia Galini by road, and only just over a Km walking, Villa Eleni is an ideal location for the quieter holiday. There are local resources for learning arts and crafts and other excursions available.
The local town has plenty of tavernas and upmarket shops, as well as a couple of reasonable supermarkets.
The beaches are close by, and more can be found on the local beaches page on this website.
We are trying to develop the garden, but being new this will take some time. However we have installed automatic watering systems to try to keep the flowers nice for your visit. Please feel free to water the plants whilst you are staying.
The villa is down an unmade road. This is a bit bumpy but not untypical of rural roads. You will need a car to get to the Villa, and make sure you have the under car and tire insurance on your hire. We can recommend car hire.
Being by the pool, admiring the exceptional views is a real delight! No matter what the time of day, there is always a stunning view, interspaced with a cool dip in the pool.
Due to the exceptionally clear skies in this part of Crete and the lack of light pollution, this is an ideal site to stargaze! (As yet we dont have a resident telescope, but I am working on Sally to this end! - M). Being on the south side of Crete generally the skies are clearer and the weather more reliable. It is claimed by the locals that Ag Galini has over 300 days of sunshine per year.
There is no 'best time' to visit the Villa as every month has something different. However if you like the wonderful flowers of Crete then visit in April when the hillsides are green and covered in poppies, orchids, and buttercups!
